As a father with two young kids, I see almost every single animated movie that hits theatres. Thankfully, I skipped out on The Smurfs 2. So when I saw Frozen with my kids on Saturday afternoon of opening weekend in a packed theatre, I was thoroughly in awe. Somehow, Disney had managed to publicize a movie for months and never reveal it was a musical. It's a really good musical, too, taking story risks not typically seen in Disney animated films. As promised, Sony has released firmware version 3.0 for the PMW-F5, PMW-F55, and the AXS-R5 recorder. This is a major system update that includes several key features that were previously announced, as well as several new ones. Additionally, Sony has announced that firmware version 4.0 will be released in March 2014 with new features that were added due to user feedback, including cache recording and support for HDMI 2.0 (4K 60fps output) on the F55. Interval recording was previously announced for firmware 3.0, but is delayed and will be released with 4.0 in March.

Over the last couple of days, we've had some time to play with Sony's recently-released F5/F55 firmware version 3.0. The new firmware has tons of updates, which are outlined in Jeff's previous blog, but I wanted to specifically highlight a couple of the new features including Super16 Center Scan mode, new LUT options, and High Frame Rate mode. Firmware v3.0 truly delivers on the full potential of the F5 & F55 – check out my video above to see what I mean.
